May edition of WestVic Dairy News - out now!

WestVic Dairy News – May 2022 is now available to read online. This edition delves into rising input costs and how a dairy farm can be managed when the goal posts or cost structures keep changing.

WestVic Dairy also congratulates the winners of the Great South West Dairy Awards 2022, and a full list can be found in this publication.

Meanwhile, Regional Extension Officer – Animal Health and Performance Debbie Twiss chats to Victorian dairy farmers Lyn and David Parish about their involvement in the ImProving Herds Project, while Marketing and Communications Officer Michelle Leech provides an overview of a recent visit made by Dairy Australia staff to the WestVic region.

Furthermore, the publication looks at how the The Doolan family currently milk 650 cows on a property in Brucknell, and recently took advantage of the free farm safety initiative offered by the Victorian Farmers Federation. The ‘Making Our Farms Safer’ program provides on-farm consultations with a qualified safety advisor to provide farmers with the tools, education and support to better understand their OH&S obligations. Regional Extension Officer – Workforce Planning Matt Wood speaks to the Doolans about their experience so far.

Keeping with the safety theme, a WorkSafe farmer story featuring Matt and Alli Reid from Otway Milk appears in the edition. The couple run a dairy farm of roughly 700 cattle on their 688 hectares property in Carlisle River, Victoria.

Additionally, this newsletter contains the WestVic Dairy Focus Farm reports, which can be found on the final page.
