Annual General Meeting



Dairy Australia’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2020 was held on Friday 27 November 2020. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the meeting was held online.

The AGM provided an update on activities during the past year, including key programs and investments and the benefits they’ve delivered for dairy farmers and the wider industry. This video shares our 2019/20 highlights. 

At the December 2020 Board meeting, the Board has endorsed additional disclosure on the following items of business voted upon at the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM):

  • Votes cast on each item on business
  • Total votes cast as a percentage of voting entitlements
  • Open proxies voted at the AGM
  • Invalid votes
  • Director voting - aggregate pool

Total votes cast as a percentage of voting entitlements

Total votes cast differed marginally for the items of business but represented approximately 16% of eligible voting entitlements, an increase from 6% in 2019.  

Open Proxies voted at the AGM

The votes cast figures above are inclusive of open proxies that were voted upon on the day of the Annual General Meeting. These open proxies vary slightly per resolution.

  • Chair (average of 108,914 for items of business 1, 2 & 4 – no open proxies voted for item of business 3 per below)
  • Other open proxies (31,511)  

Invalid Votes

A total of 1 proxy representing less than 4000 votes was deemed invalid. 

Resolution 3 Directors’ Aggregate Pool

Existing directors abstained from voting their personal holdings and any open proxies assigned to them on item of business 3 – directors’ aggregate pool.

Are you a member of Dairy Australia?

Membership of Dairy Australia is voluntary and free to dairy farm businesses contributing to the Dairy Service Levy.

Levy payers are encouraged to become members. Membership entitles a say in the direction of the organisation and the election of Dairy Australia Directors.

There are three ways to register for membership or check your membership status:

Dairy Australia has two member groups, Group A for dairy farmers and Group B for peak industry bodies.

  • 2018-19

    The 2019 Dairy Australia Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Friday, 29 November at Lardner Park, near Warragul in Gippsland.

    At the AGM, Dairy Australia Chair Jeff Odgers and Dairy Australia Managing Director David Nation acknowledged the tough conditions during the season. They provided an overview of Dairy Australia’s activities supporting farmers, along with an update on industry initiatives underway to support dairy farming. Members were invited to ask questions at the meeting.

    Official items of business in 2019 included:

    • Financial Statements and Reports
    • Election of Directors

    Dairy Australia members voted to elect three candidates to the board of the organisation. Jeff Odgers and Professor Paul Wood AO were re-elected as Directors for the milk producer and research and development positions, respectively. Josephine Rozman was elected to fill the finance and governance position. Jan West AM retired from the Board.

    The AGM was followed by a tour of the DairyFeedbase project at Agriculture Victoria’s nearby Ellinbank Dairy Research Centre. DairyFeedbase was launched in 2018 as a co-investment with Agriculture Victoria and Gardiner Dairy Foundation, in order to bring new technology in a practical way to the management of pastures and feeding of cattle.

  • 2017-18

    The 2018 Dairy Australia AGM was held on Friday, 30 November 2018 in Melbourne.

    The AGM was an opportunity for farmers to connect and network with other members and Dairy Australia team members. Presentations by Dairy Australia Chair Jeff Odgers and Dairy Australia Managing Director David Nation acknowledged the achievements of 2017–18 and set the agenda for the year ahead. Members were invited to ask questions at the meeting.

    Official items of business in 2018 included:

    • Financial Statements and Reports
    • Change to the Constitution
    • Election of Directors

    Dairy Australia members voted to elect three candidates to the board of the organisation. James Mann, David Lord and Roseanne Healy were elected to fill the director vacancies, each of the three roles requiring unique skills and expertise.

    David Lord and Roseanne Healy replaced retiring directors John McKillop and David Mallinson.
