Reproductive Management

Improved fertility results enhance the options and flexibility to better manage both the dairy farm and herd.

Reproductive performance

There are several practices and factors that can have a major impact on herd reproductive performance. These include:

  • Calf and heifer management.
  • Body condition and nutrition.
  • Heat detection.
  • Genetics, sires, mating strategies and artificial insemination.
  • Bull management.
  • Cow health.

Irrespective of farm system or calving pattern, better reproductive performance means fewer cows are culled because of fertility issues. This allows for increased culling of genuinely low-producing cows, improving productivity and profitability, as well as enabling dairy farms to be more resilient, flexible, adaptable and responsive.

InCalf, our fertility and reproduction program, provides resources and training to support dairy farmers in identifying and addressing key areas to improve performance.
