Innovation Day set to spark conversation around future in dairy farming

The DairySA Innovation Day will return to Mount Gambier in just two weeks, where industry members, farmers and service providers will gather to explore “our future in dairy farming”.

Up to 200 delegates from across SA’s South East and beyond are expected to attend the premier dairy industry event at The Barn on Wednesday June 21. The thought-provoking conference has built a reputation for attracting high-calibre Australian and International speakers, and this will be the case again in 2023.

An exciting line up of presenters include New Zealand Farmer and Farm 4 Life founder Tangaroa Walker, Australia’s biggest silage contractor Sam Monk and Ellinbank Farm Research Scientist Meaghan Douglas – who will dive into discussions around people, business, animal and feedbase themes.

Attendees can expect to hear from experts on a vast array of topics including the future climate in dairy farming, lessons from abroad for Australian dairy, the latest dairy Situation and Outlook, unlocking more productive and sustainable farming and the use of red seaweeds in grazing-based systems to reduce methane emissions of lactating dairy cows.

New Zealand award winning farmer Pete Morgan will introduce innovation opportunities to the audience with his presentation on the Halter farm system. Designed to create more productive and sustainable farms, Pete will showcase how he uses Halter to increase pasture utilisation, combat labour issues and improve animal health and performance.

Following the day program, delegates are invited to gather in a relaxed setting with other farmers and presenters at the Top Paddock for a pre-dinner drink, followed by a two-course dinner. In the evening, SADA President Rob Brokenshire will touch on current industry updates and guests will have an opportunity to provide feedback to the DairySA Board and team.

The DairySA Innovation Day is the result of a collaborative approach between DairySA and south east local dairy farmers, who are committed to delivering a diverse and informative program for delegates. There has also been significant support from this year’s sponsors who will be present across 24 trade displays on the day.

Kicking off the day with barista made coffee, engaging in inspiring conversation and finishing with the best steak in town, it will be a day not to miss!
