Healthy Bones Action Week 17-23 August 2020
Healthy Bones Action Week runs from 17 -23 August in 2020.
Healthy Bones Action Week has called on Australians to protect their bones since 1994. People of all ages are encouraged to take three simple actions to build and maintain healthy bones - consume calcium rich dairy foods, regular weight bearing exercise and enjoy safe sun for Vitamin D.
Since the introduction of COVID-19 restrictions earlier in the year, Aussies are spending more time at home than ever before. This has the potential to have a lasting impact on bone health.
This year Healthy Bones Action Week will embrace online fitness and wellness trends to provide Aussies with daily video inspiration to improve their bone health, wherever they are. Dairy Australia have developed a five-piece video content series featuring AFL legend Jonathan Brown, Dr Sandra Luliano, dietitians from the Health Performance Collective, fitness instructor /online influencer Sarah Piotrowski and St Kilda FC Dietitian Alison Miles who will discuss the role of dairy in bone health, the three key actions and why dairy is so important in the diet. The videos will form part of an integrated campaign that crosses between media, owned content and partner channels, and will be available to share from the @AustralianDairy social media pages during Healthy Bones Action Week
Here are a couple of ways you can get involved and support this important health initiative:
- Host a Healthy Bones Action Week initiative in your workplace, encouraging staff to take the three actions for healthy bones each day. Share daily video content from @AustralianDairy to kick-start the initiative!
- Share Healthy Bones Action Week with your social followers. Encourage all Australians to do something positive for their bone health, by taking the three actions for Healthy Bones. You can either share the social tiles attached or share the video content from @AustralianDairy, which will be posted each day during the week, 5 videos total.
To leverage the popularity of Healthy Bones Action Week in schools, Discover Dairy along with Kimberlin Education will launch an ‘Expert Classroom video’ on 18th August. Nutrition bone scientist Dr Sandra Iuliano will feature in the 10-minute education session explaining the importance of bone health to students and the three key steps to building and maintaining healthy bones, with a focus on dairy foods.
To follow up on their learning, students can participate in a live Q&A with Dr Luliano later in the week and download a healthy bones planner and jigsaw puzzle from the website.
