Dairy Australia to offer farmers new Milk Price Workshops

Dairy Australia is offering a new series of Milk Price Workshops to help farmers lift the lid on the dynamics of the milk market and better understand what really drives their farm gate milk price.

The ever changing market and regulatory environment has made it more important than ever for farmers to understand what drives milk prices in order to maximise their own profitability and manage risk. The new workshops will provide insights into milk pricing and explore some of the market information available to farmers, such as the Milk Value Portal.

Initially being offered in Victorian dairy regions before potentially being extended nationally, the workshops are interactive learning events delivered in face-to-face workshops.

Topics to be covered include:

  • What impacts milk markets

  • Deciding on the right production model

  • History of milk pricing in Australia

  • The Dairy Code of Conduct

  • The Milk Value Portal

  • Milk Price risk Management.

Dairy Australia’s Agribusiness Manager, Tony Anderson, said understanding the basic mechanics of the milk market is important for farmers to ensure they can maximise their profits.

“There have been some significant changes to the milk market mechanisms in recent years and it’s absolutely critical that dairy farmers understand how the market now operates if they want to increase their profits,” Mr Anderson said. “These workshops will help provide the information dairy farmers need to understand the market and determine what is the most profitable production model for their farm.”

There is no cost to register for the workshops, which are being funded by Dairy Australia with help from a grant from the Australian Government.
