Dairy Innovation Webinars
Dairy Australia is driving herd and feed innovation by delivering outcomes from research to improve the productivity and genetics of herd and feed, and providing insights to support decision making.
DairyBio and DairyFeedbase are the Australian diary industry’s leading research programs with world leading herd and pasture innovation.
You can watch a series of Dairy Innovation webinars, covering some of these research projects and outcomes, below.
Understanding cow fertility predictions from milk samples–February 2023
Join DairyBio Researchers Phuong Ho and Jo Newton to hear the latest on the work happening in developing accurate cow fertility predictions.
DairyBio has been the world leader in developing technology that uses Mid-Infared spectrum light to help predict a cows level of fertility from milk samples. Phuong and Jo have played a major role in developing this technology and making sure that it works so that it can be applied on farm.
Researching to aid timely pasture management decisions–April 2023
DairyFeedbase Researchers Liz Morse-McNabb and Anna Thomson focus on the ways that sensor technology could reform the way we measure pastures.
It is known that the amount of home-grown forage consumed directly by cows affects the overall farm profitability. However, measuring pasture and other forages is a time-consuming task that is just another job that needs to be done on the farm. For the past 5 years Liz, Anna and their team of researchers have been looking at different sensor technology and working on ways that this profitable, but time-consuming job can be improved.
During the webinar, Liz and Anna, will discuss the latest findings are on estimating biomass and nutritive value of plants using these sensors, what this means for the way we measure our pastures into the future and how this technology can be used on farm.
40 years of genetic herd improvement–June 2023
Learn about all things new in soils research with Agriculture Victoria's Research Director Agriculture Resources Sciences, Angela Avery and her team.
The DairySoils project is forming a key part of the new DairyFeedbase23-28 research project and has the potential to transform how we farm presently, with projects examining alternatives to synthetic fertiliser inputs, alternative forage varieties and soil microbes.
Soil research for sustainable and productive forages–August 2023

Enhancing Calving Outcomes–October 2023
Agriculture Victoria's PhD candidate Michelle Axford about her research into calf vitality and the role that genetics plays in the birth of a healthy calf. Michelle is part way through her research study, but has already found many things that farmers can implement on farm to help improve calving outcomes.
Joining Michelle is dairy farmer Tori Tuckett who will share with us how good record keeping at calving has helped to give her the best outcomes for her calves and business.
