Meet Roxy Schoof
For as long as she can remember, Roxy Schoof has milked cows and reared calves.
The 22-year-old grew up on a dairy farm at Redmond on the South Coast of Western Australia and helped her parents and four brothers care for a herd of 220.
She completed Years 11 and 12 at the WA College of Agriculture Denmark before going on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in mid-2018 from Murdoch University.
Despite living in the Perth metropolitan area during her studies, Roxy still found a way to work milking cows part-time and be an active member of the Western Dairy Young Dairy Network (YDN).
She headed east over the following 12 months to dairy regions in South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria as part of her commitment to the Emerging Dairy Leaders Program run by Dairy Australia and TafeSA.
Within a month of finishing her studies though, Roxy became a mum herself and now has a one-year-old daughter with husband Vaughn.
Roxy said her newest role as Western Dairy YDN Regional Coordinator was a great fit for her and the family, as she could stay involved in an industry that she loved and meet like-minded people who were keen to learn and network.
“I’m really excited to take on this role and support young dairy people like myself,” she said.
“We aim to host events which deliver relevant information that can be applied directly into a farming practice or a future farm. YDN events are also a great place to meet other young people, share ideas and socialise."
Roxy said it did not matter what background a prospective member had, if they currently worked in the industry or were interested in doing so, they were welcome to join YDN.
