DataGene is an initiative of Dairy Australia and the dairy industry that is focused on improving herd development through genetics, as well as animal health and farm profitability through data-driven decision making and tools.

Genetics-based research

DataGene delivers world-class genetic evaluation, software and decision-making tools to enable Australian farmers to improve their herd performance, animal health and farm profitability. It plays a fundamental role of turning research into practical outcomes on farm.

DataGene collaborates with DairyBio, an industry to initiative focused on herd research, to deliver detailed genetic information to Australian dairy farmers. This research has led to significant genetic gain in breeding values and national herd development for the Australian dairy industry. It is also demonstrated through the rapid growth of calves genomically tested with over 90,000 tested in 2022-23.
