The DairySA Board of Directors are calling for dairy farmers to help shape the future of dairying in SA by nominating to fill vacant director positions. New board members will formally commence in their role at this year’s Annual General Meeting to be held in Victor Harbor on Tuesday 24 October.
DairySA is one of eight Regional Development Programs funded by Dairy Australia and is committed to delivering regionally focused, farmer-driven practical activities, innovative programs, and information to support all dairying regions of South Australia. This includes 181 dairy farms clustered across three production areas - the Mid North (Barossa and districts), Central Region (Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula, Murray Swamps, Meningie Lakes) and the South-east (upper and lower).
The DairySA Board is responsible for deciding on and directing funding to regionally relevant research and development, contributing to an increase in the profitability and sustainability of the state’s industry.
Long term director and local farmer Glenn Dohnt highly recommends joining the board and having a go, "they (farmers) have probably got a lot more to give than what they think - and the knowledge that they’ve built up over the years, its pretty invaluable."
"It's just a really easy going environment, the time contribution is not huge, but our input is taken very seriously".
Michael Krichauff another farmer director advises those interested to take the opportunity to give back to the industry and "have a say and an influence over where the money goes and where it’s spent with regards to research and development".
"It's a great opportunity to have your voice heard."
All farmer applicants must be levy payers in the state of South Australia and diversity in the role is encouraged.
