With support from the State Government through grant funding DairyTas, with the assistance of Dairy Australia, delivered a 4 day training program aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of our future industry leaders.
Using the skills of dairy consultants Adam and Cath Jenkins the course covered a wide range of topics essential for modern dairy farm management including; modern people management, farm financials, business obligations, farm safety, delegation & position descriptions, managing up, farm Performance & reporting, decision making and planning for success.
Course facilitators Adam and Cath did a great job at getting everyone talking and learning. Participants also benefited from insights shared by industry speakers. These speakers included Donna Avery from ANZ who shared her journey from sharefarming in New Zealand and Tasmania to a career in banking, offering valuable perspectives on what banks look for in loan applicants. Simon Bennett, Operations Manager at Aurora Dairies, also joined the course at one stage to discuss the skills and attributes sought by corporate farms in management positions. The group also had the ability to hear from TasTAFE’s Adam Bracken about future opportunities to upskill through further training.
Additionally previous course participants, Jeffrey Gijsbers and Aaron Ferguson shared their personal journeys to farm ownership and encouraged the group to keep at their desired career pathway even when the times are looking tough.
