Murray Dairy Board of Directors



The Murray Dairy Board has eight members, including five dairy farmers and three others with specialist experience in agribusiness, finance, people and farm business management.

The role of the Murray Dairy Board is to:

  • Set the direction for research, extension education and industry development in the Murray Dairy region

  • Invest levy funds to address priority issues identified by the Industry Steering Group

  • Grow and diversify the research, extension and education funding base

  • Develop and monitor the implementation of both the five year Strategic Plan and Annual Operating Plan, and

  • Ensure sound management and infrastructure to deliver Murray Dairy programs across the region.

Rachael Napier
Chair

Rachael and her partner operate a dairy farm in Deniliquin in the southern Riverina. With over 20 years’ experience in various roles across the industry. Rachael brings a wealth of knowledge in dairy farm operations, business management and staff management to the Board.


Rachael has held various leadership roles within the dairy industry and her local community. She has been involved in priority setting and development of key industry extension programs, such as the Farm Safety Manual. Rachael has a passion for flexible farming systems, fostering sustainability and the environment.

    Dustin Kemp
    Deputy Chair

    As the sharefarmer of a dairy farm in Lockington, Dustin has had extensive experience across all areas of dairy farming. He has completed a Certificate III in Horticulture with Wodonga TAFE, majoring in Arboriculture, and a Diploma with Dairy Australia/TAFE SA, majoring in Agribusiness Management.


    Dustin has held roles as president of the Campaspe Young Dairy Network and as a member of the Goulburn-Murray Water Irrigator Customer Representative Committee.

      Claire Baumber
      Treasurer
      Growing up on a dairy farm in Dhurringile has provided Claire with the skills to relate to all aspects of a family business. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resource Management and Marketing) through Deakin University.

      Claire has had many years' experience working as an Agribusiness Manager with NAB Shepparton. With prior experience as an Agribusiness Analyst, Agribusiness Credit Analyst and Administration Officer. In addition, Claire has been a GV Family Care Sponsorship and Fundraising Committee Member.

        Phil Lang
        Farmer Director

        Phil grew up on is family dairy farm at Tatura providing him with hands on experience in the industry before studying Animal Nutrition at Melbourne University obtaining a Bachelor of Science with Honors.


        Phil is currently the Director and Chief Financial Officer of Lang Dairies and has extensive experience in the dairy industry along with working on dairy farms in Brazil, Ecuador and Switzerland. Their business also has interests in beef production and cropping.

          Lucy Galt
          Farmer Director

          Lucy runs a Shepparton East dairy business with her family. Holding an Advanced Diploma in Agriculture and a Diploma of Vocational Education and Training.


          Lucy has extensive interests in supporting the development of young people in agriculture. She is in a hands on role with the University of Melbourne students at Dookie promoting the dairy industry through practical education. including getting students involved with pasture and herd health walks, breeding programs, understanding the size and value of dairy in the region and key challenges facing the industry.

            Hamish Crawford
            Farmer Director

            Hamish has a Bachelor of Commerce (Acc) from Latrobe University and Graduate Certificate in Business Management. He has past professional experience in the accounting sector before returning to dairy farming.


            Hamish has been involved in dairy advocacy and is currently chair of the Central Dairy Business Network. Hamish is passionate about promoting the opportunities for dairying in the Murray region including exploring the range of different farm systems that thrive here.

              Jason Scott
              Industry Director

              Jason has over 25 years’ experience in the agriculture sector helping to make farmers more sustainable on the land. He has a broad agronomy background-built encompassing not only local but a national and international approach to growing winter and summer crops.


              Jason sees the dairy sector in the Murray region as an integral part of the regions agricultural and economic future and is looking forward to being a part of this process to help shape and drive the success of our regions producers.

                Phil Candy
                Industry Director

                Phil has over 20 years’ experience in the agriculture supply chain to the dairy industry. Over the last 8 years Phil has worked with Fonterra Australia and has been fortunate to work with dairy producers across the world.


                Phil’s priority is to continually grow and develop the Murray Dairy region in a way that will both benefit all industry participants and communities.
