Murray Dairy region scientists receive lifetime contribution awards

Former Kyabram Dairy Centre Scientists, Dr Richard Stockdale and the late Dr Kevin Kelly, were recognised last week at the 2022 Australasian Dairy Science Symposium for their outstanding contributions to dairy science in their fields of expertise.

Richard was acknowledged for his work in the field of nutrition management. His career spanned over 40 years researching topics such as body condition in cows, supplementation of grazing cows, irrigated legumes, transition cow management, nutrient selection from pastures by grazing cows and selenium in milk. He was renowned as a prolific publisher of scientific papers with over a hundred to his name.

Kevin was acknowledged for his work in the field of pasture and crop management. During his career he researched water use and irrigation management of various pastures and crops relevant to northern Victoria, management and productivity of irrigated pastures, and greenhouse gas production in dairy pastures. Kevin was an integral part of the Accelerating Change project that Murray Dairy ran between 2015 and 2018 and was continually advocating for relevant pasture and forage research for the region’s farmers.

Murray Dairy employees and former colleagues of ‘Stocky’ and ‘Kev’, Yvette Williams and Liz Byrne, were honoured to collect the awards on their behalf.
