Western Dairy prepare to slide for Fight MND thanks to Farmwest fundraiser

Western Dairy Chair, Robin Lammie, and Regional Manager, Julianne Hill, are preparing to don cow onesies and slide into icy water to help freeze MND thanks to donations raised at the recent Farmwest Discovery Day.

Nick Brasher, Farmwest Managing Director and a specialist director on the Western Dairy Board, organised a raffle at the 2022 Farmwest Discovery Day on Thursday 8 September to fundraise in support of the Western Dairy ‘Cool Cows’ team.

The Bunbury Big Freeze is taking place on Saturday 1 October 2022 at Bicentennial Square in Bunbury and is being coordinated by radio announcer, Naomi Pearce, whose own mother lost her battle with the disease in 2019.

Speaking to Ms Pearce on SEN Spirit, Mr Brasher was pleased to announce $2,525 was raised from the raffle at the Farmwest Discovery Day.

Farmwest Discovery Day is Western Australia’s largest dairy and beef industry day and is held annually.

With the donation from Farmwest Discovery Day, the Western Dairy ‘Cool Cows’ are leading the Bunbury Big Freeze donations with $2,700 raised to date.

Western Dairy is a not-for-profit association that operates under the auspices of Dairy Australia to facilitate dairy industry research, development, and extension to support the sustainable growth of Western Australia’s 116 dairy businesses.

“We chose to call ourselves the ‘Cool Cows’ not only as a play-on-words for the slide but to also promote the Cool Cows program we deliver to dairy farmers,” Mr Lammie explained.

Cool Cows is a program offered by Western Dairy and Dairy Australia which assists dairy farmers to manage the risk of heat stress in their herds, pertinent in the lead up to summer.

“Western Dairy is proud to take part in this charitable event,” Ms Hill said. “Robin and I are incredibly grateful to Nick, Farmwest and all the dairy farmers who have donated. There’s no excuses now!”

Donations for the Bunbury Big Freeze can be made online.
